Zeb-un Nessa Jamal (1924-1995), distingushed lyricist, educationist and writer, was born on 27 December 1926 in the Pathan Para area near Padmanadi in Rajshahi district. She was the first child among five daughters and two sons of Mohammed Kasiruddin Talukdar and Joya-un-Nahar. Her father, Mohammed Kasiruddin Talukdar, was a martyr of Bangladesh liberation war and a medical doctor trained in Calcutta and a modern, refined and cultured person brought up in traditional heritage and western education in a zaminder family. Her mother, Joya-un-Nahar, also came from an educated family with fondness in art and culture. Zeb-un Nessa Jamal spent her childhood in Bogra.
Her two loving brothers were Dr. Zia Hasan (physician) and Attorney Abu Hasan (lawyer). Her four devoted sisters were Jahan Ara, Monowara Begum, Mahbub Ara, and Anjuman Ara Begum, all highly educated, each holding M.A. degrees, and were well known in the fields of art and culture in Bangladesh.
In 1954, Jeb-un Nessa Jamal was married to Syed Jamal Uddin, a resident of Suri in Birbhum district. Jamal Uddin was a Kashmir graduate and worked in government service. Her father, Dr. Kasiruddin Talukdar and her mother, arranged thier beloved daughter's wedding with great splendor at their home the 'White House' in Bogra.
She lived a happy married and family life and welcomed three daughters and a son into the family. Her eldest was Zeenat Rehana, renowned singer with a professional career in NGOs; second was the only son, Syed Nizamuddin Ahmed with a senior level role at the World Bank; third was a daughter Shamim Nargis who was also radio/TV artist in Bangladesh and later lived a family life in London; youngest Lubna Yasmeen Anwar, an accounting professional in New York. All highly educated and respected in their respected fields.
After a life filled with family joy and a distinguished career as a lyricist, educationist, and writer, Zeb-un Nessa Jamal passed away on 1 April 1995 in Dhanmondi.

Educational and professional Background
completed her M.A. from the University of Dhaka in 1965, her B.A. from Lady Brabourne College, Calcutta in 1945, the Intermediate examination from the same college in 1943, and her Matriculation from Victoria Memorial Girls’ High School, Bogra in 1941, and went on to serve as a teacher at Dinajpur Girls’ High School and later as a professor at Chittagong Government Girls’ College.

-- Amar Joto Gaan - consists of 64 modern Bengali songs. Introduction by Dr. Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal. Published in August 1979.
-- Arjee - consists of 64 moromi (religious) songs. Introduction by Abdul Gofur. Published by Islamic Foundation, Bangladesh in 1985.
-- Gan Elo Mor Money - consists of 138 modern Bengali songs. Published in February 1993.
-- Jadur Pencil - consists of 56 educational songs for children. Published in February 1994.
-- Shagorer Teer Thekey - consists of 12 modern Bengali songs. Published in October 1994.
Translation of the book "Mr. Bell Invents the Telephone". Published from Franklin book programmes.
Publication on short stories "Harano Diner Golpo" consists of 15 short stories.
Ten songs published in the Nabadiganta. Published by Bureau of National Reconstruction.
Radio Programmes - first appeared as a vocal singer and continued for three years during the period when radio station was at Najimuddin road. After that she regularly participated in conducting programmes. During 60s, she conducted programmes like Mohila Mahfil (Women's Programme), School Broadcast, Angara, Ghoroni, Shukhi Shangshar, Kalo Kakoli etc.
Enlisted as a lyricist in radio in 1966 and in television from its inception in 1965. She composed songs for special programmes on independence day, language day (21st February), victory day and many other national occasions.
Publication in the newspaper - she regularly wrote short articles, songs poems, rhymes, humor for national daily, weekly, monthly newspapers.
Participation in the social and cultural organizations - she was associated with many social and cultural organizations. She was the life member of Bangla Academy. She contributed for Dhaka Ladies Club, Bangladesh Lekhikha Sangha (Writer's Association) serving in different honored positions.

Regular Vocal Artist (Special Grade) in Radio Bangladesh since 1964.
Regular Vocal Artist (Special Grade) in Bangladesh Television since 1965.
Extensively traveled throughout Bangladesh in connection with performing in musical concerts, audience participation programmes (government and private).
Performed in musical and interview programmes both government and private level in Thailand, Pakistan, India, USA (VOA) and UK (BBC).
